Coyote Rodeo
Experimental Bluegrass - Asheville, NC
Coyote Rodeo is an Asheville-based experimental bluegrass band built around the songwriting of John Colby Elswick (guitar) and Chad Brown (mandolin). Featuring Jackson Weldon on dobro and pedal steel, Connor Kozlosky on guitar and vocals, and Brad Poplin on bass, the band blends Appalachian roots with improvisation, modern jamgrass energy, and a streak of high-desert psychedelia.
Formed in June 2025, Coyote Rodeo booked a five-night run before ever rehearsing—a bold start that quickly forged a strong musical chemistry. Since then, the band has built steady momentum across the Southeast, with festival appearances at Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival, Mantra Bash, and Brew Ridge Jam; a hometown residency at The One Stop at Asheville Music Hall; opening slots for Arkansauce, Mason Via, Magoo, Shadowgrass, and Fireside Collective; and a successful headlining show at The Grey Eagle. Most recently, Coyote Rodeo opened for the legendary Leftover Salmon at French Broad River Brewery in Asheville.
Collectively, the members bring years of touring and festival experience from projects including The Kind Thieves, Into The Fog, Buddhagraph Spaceship, Dr. Bacon and collaborations across the regional jam and bluegrass circuit.
Spring and Summer 2026 Found the band on their "Hot on the Heels" Tour, including performances across North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
The band released their debut single, “Hellbent Train,” in early May 2026, followed by the "Mariah" in June and "Wasted Again" in July. The first EP will be released early next year.
Rooted in bluegrass yet unafraid to get out there — Coyote Rodeo delivers a high-energy, forward-thinking take on string music built for listening rooms, dives and festival stages alike.
